Colonial Connections has allowed our university community to experience the connections between our programs, students, staff, and local partners. Our guests for this episode of Colonial Connections are an example of crossing all of these lines and borders. Drs. Jessica Kamerer and Betsy Guimond are working with Nursing students on an international partnership. They are leading the students as they develop and present prenatal care orientations for expectant mothers in Uganda. The students are experiencing and learning while helping to educate the expectant mothers. Briana Bunner and Amber Sobek are students in the Masters Program in Counseling Psychology and they are Graduate Assistants in the Department of Psychology. Colonial Connections takes a look at the Community Partnerships that are developed through the Department of Psychology. Dr. Samantha Monda, the Department Head, and Dr. Neha Pandit, the coordinator for the Master's Program in Counseling Psychology, provides multiple examples of the innovative and flexible opportunities for RMU Psychology students to engage with the community. Learning opportunties become services for many areas, from children to geriatric populations, and sport psychology to accelerated programs of study, this episode will introduce the wide array of possibilities available. The impact of the pandemic, changes in teaching methodologies, and the power of in person learning, are all aspects under consideration. Our guest for this episode of Colonial Connections is Dr. Aaron Thomas, Superintendent of Cornell School District here in Western Pennsylvania. Dr. Thomas discusses the power of partnerships in his own School District, working with teachers today, and the interaction for future professionals with RMU Education programs and beyond. RISE Center -- RMU connects to the community in a number of way, Colonial Connections is a podcast focused on illustrating the ideas and one of the best illustrations is the Research and Innovation in Simulation Education, RISE Center.The RISE Center uses life-like computerized mannequins and trained actors (standardized patients) in many of our undergraduate and graduate courses The RISE Center is one of only a select few free standing nursing programs in the world accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. These connections are discussed with our guests Nicole Szalla the Director of the Center and Jan Barber the director of the standardized patients program. The podcast is hosted by SNEHS Dean, Dr. Mark Meyers.
